Developed in the 1920s by the legendary physical trainer and founder of The New York Pilates Studio®, Joseph H. Pilates, The Pilates Method is an exercise system focused on improving flexibility and strength for the total body without building bulk.
We refer to Pilates as a mind-body system of exercise. Almost anyone of any age and level of fitness can do Pilates. The exercises are gentle and designed to put as little strain on the body as possible.
You will start to look and feel great, and move with grace and balance, that comes from improved coordination and greater muscle flexibility. Pilates exercises have been designed to work the muscles of the body as efficiently as possible in the minimum amount of time. Some of the benefits of Pilates are improved balance, less stress, more efficient digestion, increased oxygen intake, better circulation, improved skin, enhanced immune system, sculpted body, and greater strength and coordination.
We offer the following classes:
- Reformer – The Pilates Reformer helps one establish torso stability and postural alignment while working peripheral limbs in a range of motion. The adjustable springs allow for progressive resistance, which helps to lengthen and strengthen the muscles rather than building bulk. It makes for an effective, no-impact stretching and toning workout that is friendly to the joints.
- Spring Board – Using a Pilates Springboard in your exercise has many benefits. Most exercises on the Springboard aim at stretching, articulating and stabilizing the spine. They can also stretch the sides, strengthen legs and arms, slim thighs and improve breathing.
- Chair – While many of the Pilates exercises are performed seated on top and pressing down on the step/pedal with your feet, others entail lying on the floor, standing straight up, lunging forward or doing push-up like moves with the arms. More than 75 exercises can be performed on the Chair – it makes it a great addition to your physical fitness routine.
- Matt with Props – The exercises increase your flexibility and re-shape your core effectively.
- Spine Corrector – Like most barrels, this unit is effective for stretching the spine and shoulders in a safe, stabilized, supported way. It adds variety and challenge to a routine or circuit training session whether one is a novice or expert.
"In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you'll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you'll have a different body."
"Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit!"
